Service & Supports Administration
Service and Support Administration's Mission Statement:
To support individuals in determining and choosing life goals and/or services; to aggressively work toward that attainment; to work with families, guardians, and natural supports to access, provide and/or enlist whatever assistance or support is needed in any life area, including protective intervention; and to maintain the individual as the focus while coordinating services across multiple systems.
What Is Service and Support Administration?
Service and Support Administration is about people helping people. SSA's are employed by the HCBMRDD and follow rules written by the Ohio Department of MR/DD to provide a variety of services. SSA's make sure that individuals with MR/DD receive the services they want and need to ensure a high quality of life.
Who is eligible for Service and Support Administration?
Anyone in Holmes County who has MR/DD may be eligible. Eligibility is determined after a series of questions are answered by or on behalf of the person applying for services.
What Services do Service and Administrators Provide?
SSAs provide the following services:
1. Service Placement: SSAs help people with disabilities find the right school, the right job, or the right place to live.
2. Service Coordination: When services from other agencies are needed, SSAs help access the services.
3. Crisis Intervention: If a person is in danger or needs help with an emergency, assistance is available 24 hours a day. If the person receives Service and Support Administration, they may first call their SSA. If the person does not receive Service and Support Administration, or their SSA cannot be reached, they may access assistance by contacting either the Millersburg Police Department or the Holmes County Sheriff's Department. Assignment of a SSA will be determined after the crisis is over.
4. Service Monitoring: A SSA checks to see that a person with MR/DD is getting help. Case Managers may visit a person's home, school program, or workplace to make sure the individual is receiving the services they deserve. The above services are based on individual needs and are provided with the consent of the individual or guardian.
5. Advocacy: An advocate is defined as "one who pleads on behalf of another." In other words, an advocate is a person who will help another person with a problem they cannot handle alone. SSAs protect the rights of people with MR/DD.
How can I get SSA?
If you or someone you know thinks they are eligible for MR/DD SSA services, call the SSA supervisor at (330) 674-8045. If you have an emergency, follow the procedure for crisis intervention.
Major Unusual Incident Investigation/Reporting
Any event which meets the criteria for a Major Unusual Incident should be reported to the Service and Support Administrator Supervisor within 24 hours, except alleged abuse or alleged neglect, which should be reported as soon as possible in order to assure health and safety. The Service and Support Administrator Supervisor is responsible for filing the MUI on the Incident Tracking System with ODMR/DD, notifying MEORC to start the investigation/review and the Service and Support Administrator of that individual.
